When we come back from Winter Break, we'll finish up the Renaissance unit with a project, then review and test.

-We did a quick review of the material we covered last day on the Protestant Reformation.

-Then we practiced thinking like Renaissance inventors.  Students were put into teams (named after famous people from the Renaissance) and the aim was to purchase items in an auction that would later be used to create a device that would protect a raw egg dropped from the upper floor to the lower floor of our school.  The inventions were very creative.  Of the eight teams, 4 were successful in coming up with a design that was able to survive the plunge.  A good effort was made by all.

-Please remember your food bank items for Friday's class.

-Introduced the Protestant Reformation
-in groups - students discussed - "Sunday Service Dilemma"
-completed worksheet using the textbook
-we went over the answers as a class
-watched a short clip of the movie, "Luther".
-Handed back Late Middle Ages tests.

-First 30 minutes of class was spent finishing up the Leonardo da Vinci Documentary.
-Rest of class time - students had time to finish up the station studies.  The booklets need to be handed in at the beginning of tomorrow's class.

-Students were given the class to work on their Station Study.

Next day students will be given approx. 30 minutes to finish up their stations.

1st half of the double block
     -continued to work on Station Study
2nd half of the double block
     -watched a History Channel Documentary on Leonardo da Vinci - the film also connects together the information that we have been learning about during the station study.

-Introduced the Renaissance - read introduction of Chapter 7 together.  Students copied down notes about the DIFFERENCES between the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
-We looked at WHY the Renaissance likely started in Italy.
-Students each received a Station Study Booklet and we began working on the 8 stations.
-Students will continue to work on the Station Study next class.

-The LATE MIDDLE AGES TEST

-Next day we will begin our unit on the RENAISSANCE.  The unit will consist of;

  • an Introduction
  • Station Study
  • Documentary History channel movie - Da Vinci
  • a Project
  • Review and a Test

-The first half of class we worked on the review sheet for the test and then discussed answers as a class.
-The second half of class we watched a small portion of a funny movie set in the Middle Ages.
-After that we did a group activity not related to studying (as we were studied out:).

ASSIGNMENT #5 - Teach a Lesson

Assignment #5 is to TEACH a lesson (or a portion of a lesson) to the class you have been working with.  I will provide each of you with a handout for this assignment but you can also access it at the following link;

**Again, very important that you have a discussion with your sponsor teacher about what topic you will be teaching and when you should teach your lesson.  Please have this discussion sooner rather than later.

For ASSIGNMENT #5 - Please ask your teacher sponsor to evaluate the lesson that you teach.  They have been provided with a copy of the Evaluation Rubric.

ASSIGNMENT #4 - Design a Lesson

I have provided each of you with an outline of Assignment #4 - on the back of your handout is a template - you may use this to organize your lesson or create your own template.

Assignment #5 will be to teach a lesson to the class you are assisting with.  So - it makes the most sense to use the lesson plan that you create in Lesson #4.

**Please discuss this assignment with your sponsor teacher within the next week (before Dec. 9) rather than leaving it to the last minute.  Your sponsor teacher will appreciate having some time to think about when it would make the most sense to have you teach your lesson.

For ASSIGNMENT #4 - Either your sponsor teacher or I will evaluate your lesson plan.  If you would like me to evaluate it - please place it in the TA folder in the office.
